Google announced on its blog on July 21 that it plans to close its Labs, which for ten years were "a playground where our more adventurous users can play around with prototypes of some of our wild and crazy ideas and offer feedback directly to the engineers who developed them."
But why are they shutting the Labs down now, after ten years of experimentation? Larry Page, who will be taking over for chief executive Eric Schmidt, wants to reign in the company's spending spree, according to mobiledia.com.

Google shuts down Google Labs. That is sad. Many of my favorite Gmail features came from Labs.
What good came out of the Google Labs anyway? Some of the better-known products include Gmail, the Android mobile OS and the Google Maps.
